Matvælaráðuneytið og BIODICE stóðu fyrir málþingi um vistkerfisnálgun í umgengni við og nýtingu náttúru Íslands þann 21. september síðastliðinn.
Málþingið var haldið á Hilton Reykjavík Nordica og mættu um 60 manns á staðinn en tæplega 300 fylgdust með í streymi. Svandís Svavarsdóttir matvælaráðherra ávarpaði málþingið í upphafi en á eftir fylgdu erindi, fyrst frá fagaðilum BIODICE um hugtakið vistkerfisnálgun og svo frá hagaðilum þar sem staða vistkerfisnálgunar var metin fyrir landbúnað, sjávarútveg og náttúruvernd.

Markmið málþingsins var að vekja athygli á hugtakinu vistkerfisnálgun, og hlutverki þess í stefnumörkun matvælaráðuneytisins. Efni málþingsins mun nýtast í aðgerðaáætlunum ráðuneytisins en samkvæmt samningi Sameinuðu þjóðanna um líffræðilega fjölbreytni til 2030 er gert ráð fyrir að stefna um aðgerðir verði innleidd hjá aðildarríkjum samningsins með vistkerfisnálgun.
Í kjölfar málþingsins mun BIODICE taka saman skýrslu fyrir ráðuneytið þar sem staða málaflokkanna og helstu áskoranir varðandi innleiðinguna munu verðar reifaðar. Svo raddir sem flestra hagaðila heyrist verður hægt að senda inn svör við tveimur spurningum er varðar málið inná www.nmsi.is/malthing fram til 2. október.
Spurningarnar tvær sem um ræðir eru:
1) Hver eru sjónarmið þín til vistkerfisnálgunar á auðlindanýtingu lands og sjávar?
2) Hvað þarf til að ná árangri í þessu málaflokki til framtíðar?

Great participation in symposium on The Ecosystem Approach
On September 21st, The Icelandic Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries and BIODICE hosted a seminar on the ecosystem approach to management and use of Iceland’s nature.
The symposium was held at the hotel Hilton Reykjavík Nordica and about 60 people attended, while almost 300 watched it live. The minister of food, Svandís Svavarsdóttir, opened the symposium, followed by talks. The first talk, by a team of specialists from BIODICE, was on the concept of the ecosystem approach. This was followed by input from stakeholders and practitioners who addressed the status of the ecosystem approach in agriculture, fisheries and nature conservation.

The aim of the symposium was to draw attention to the concept of the ecosystem approach, and its role in the Ministry of Food’s policies. The content of the seminar will be used in the ministry’s action plans. According to the United Nations’ Convention on Biological Diversity, member states should take measures for implementation of the ecosystem approach by 2030.
Following the seminar, BIODICE will compile a report for the ministry, discussing the status and the main challenges regarding the implementation of the ecosystem approach. In order for the voices of all interested parties can be heard, it is possible to submit answers to two questions at www.nmsi.is/malthing until October 2nd.
The two questions are:
1) What are your views on the ecosystem approach to the utilization of land and sea resources?
2) What is needed to achieve success on this issue in the future?
