BIODICE hélt málstofu um líffræðilega fjölbreytni og náttúrufræðimenntun á Líffræðiráðstefunni 12.–14. október 2023
Líffræðileg fjölbreytni og loftslagsmál eru ein stærstu mál samtímans og miklar áskoranir tengjast málaflokkunum, bæði í nútíð og framtíð. Til að geta tekist á við þessar áskoranir er nauðsynlegt fyrir komandi kynslóðir að vera vel vopnum búnar náttúrulæsi og skilningi á virkni vistkerfa, líffræðilegri fjölbreytni og tengslum þessara hugataka við umhverfisbreytingar. Mikilvægi menntunar og fræðslu er óumdeilanleg og er sérstök áhersla lögð á þetta í samningnum sem undirritaður var í Montréal í Kananda í desember 2022 á leiðtogafundi Sameinuðu þjóðanna um líffræðilega fjölbreytni, COP15. Ísland er aðili að þessum samningi og er því skuldbundið til að grípa til aðgerða í samræmi við það.
Eftirfarandi erindi voru flutt á málstofunni:
1) Líffræðileg fjölbreytni – mikilvægasta mál samtímans. Ragnhildur Guðmundsdóttir, sérfræðingur og safnkennari hjá Náttúruminjasafni Íslands
2) Umgjörð Aðalnámskrár grunnskóla um náttúruvísindamenntun. Haukur Arason, dósent á Menntavísindasviði Háskóla Íslands.
3) Barnið vex en bókin ekki. Andri Már Sigurðsson, ritstjóri náttúrufræðigreina Menntamálastofnun
4) Kennsluhættir náttúrufræða í skyldunámi. Svava Pétursdóttir, lektor á Menntavísindasviði Háskóla Íslands.
5) Grænfáninn: árangur og áskoranir í þemanu lífbreytileiki. Rannveig Magnúsdóttir, sérfræðingur hjá Landvernd
6) Veganestið – Hvert stefnum við og hver eru sóknarfærin? Edda Elísabet Magnúsdóttir, lektor á Menntavísindasviði Háskóla Íslands
Bjarni K. Kristjánsson, prófessor við Háskólann á Hólum var fundarstjóri og stýrði umræðum.

Great interest in seminar on biodiversity and education
BIODICE had a seminar on biodiversity and nature science education at the IceBio conference 12.-14. October 2023.
Biodiversity and climate change are among the most urgent topics of today and a lot of challenges that are related to both topics, present and in the future. In order to be able to do something about these issues the future generations will have to learn nature literacy, understand ecosystem functioning, learn about biodiversity and the connection of these concepts to environmental changes. The importance of education is indisputable in this regard and in the United Nation agreement that was signed in Montréal in Cananda in December 2022 at the COP15 conference there is a special emphasis on education and how to implement it. Iceland is a part of this agreement and was among the 190 countries that agreed to take action against the great biodiversity loss that is currently taking place.
